Summer Wedding At The Lawn, Rochford.
Mitch and Carolina’s wedding at The Lawn in Rochford, Essex was such a beautiful, relaxed day from start to finish. The venue itself is one of my favourites to photograph — it’s bright, elegant and surrounded by gorgeous gardens that make every moment feel timeless.
The day started with Carolina getting ready in one of The Lawn’s beautiful prep rooms. The morning light there is perfect — soft and natural, ideal for capturing all the excitement and emotion as she got ready with her bridesmaids. Everyone was in great spirits, and it was such a relaxed atmosphere with plenty of laughter in between the final touches.
Meanwhile, Mitch and his groomsmen were busy pinning on their buttonholes and sharing a few jokes before heading over to the venue. I always love capturing these parts of the morning — they’re full of genuine moments and anticipation, and it’s great to have both sides of the story coming together before the ceremony even begins.
The ceremony took place outside at The Lawn, which was exactly what Mitch and Carolina had hoped for. All week, the forecast had been showing rain, but we got lucky and the weather held out, not a single drop! It made for such a beautiful setting, with guests seated on the lawn and the stunning building as the backdrop.
The atmosphere was brilliant, full of emotion! I kept my approach documentary, capturing all the natural reactions as they happened. The way the light softened as the clouds cleared made everything look even more magical, and it suited my candid, true-to-life editing style perfectly.
Straight after the ceremony, we moved to the front steps of The Lawn for confetti — one of my favourite moments of any wedding day. The steps make the perfect backdrop, and the guests didn’t hold back with the confetti! Mitch and Carolina came down through a full tunnel of cheers and colour, while I walked backwards down the stairs trying to capture every moment (without falling over in the process!).
After the confetti and group shots, we took a short walk around the grounds for some portraits of Mitch and Carolina. The driveway leading up to The Lawn looked incredible. That long stretch always makes for timeless, elegant shots.
We mixed in a few relaxed walking photos, some leaning against one of the trees for a more candid feel, and then a couple of close, romantic shots where the light was at its best. The veil throw was one of my favourite moments of the day, it caught the light perfectly and turned out exactly as I’d hoped.
We finished up by the iconic fountain in The Lawn’s gardens, which is always a great spot for portraits. It gave us a perfect mix of natural, joyful moments and a few that felt just a touch more classic and cinematic!
Once the confetti had settled, we moved straight into a few group shots on the lawn. I like to keep these really relaxed and enjoyable — nothing too formal or stiff. We had plenty of laughs in between photos, which always helps get natural smiles and keeps the energy high. I find that when everyone’s having fun, the pictures look and feel so much more genuine.
Throughout the day I focused on capturing all the little in-between moments — guests laughing, hugs being shared, drinks clinking and kids running around the lawn. These are the moments that really tell the story of the day and the ones my couples always love most when they look back.
The speeches took place in The Lawn’s Orangery, which was beautifully bright and filled with natural light — a photographer’s dream! The big windows created such a soft, even glow across the room, which worked perfectly for capturing all the emotion and laughter as it unfolded.
The speeches themselves were a great mix of heartfelt and funny moments. I always love this part of the day — there’s so much genuine expression to capture, from big laughs to quiet, emotional reactions. It’s those little in-between moments that really tell the story.
As the evening started to wind down, everyone gathered inside for Mitch and Carolina’s first dance. The room was lit perfectly — warm, intimate, and full of atmosphere — which made it such a great moment to photograph. You could really feel how happy everyone was for them, and once the music kicked in properly, the dance floor filled up straight away.
I always like to stay for a few songs after the first dance to capture some of those fun, candid moments when everyone’s letting their hair down. It’s the perfect way to finish the story of the day — genuine smiles, laughter, and a few questionable dance moves!
Mitch and Carolina’s day at The Lawn in Rochford was such a perfect example of what I love most about photographing weddings — relaxed, natural moments in a beautiful setting surrounded by genuine emotion. The team at The Lawn always do such a great job keeping everything running smoothly, and it really shows in the atmosphere of the day.
