A Colourful Spring Wedding at Curds Hall Barn
Chloe and Matthew’s wedding at Curds Hall Barn, Norfolk was one of those days that just felt easy in the best possible way. It was relaxed, full of personality, and completely centred around them and the people they love most.
Set in the Norfolk countryside on a warm and sunny day in March, their wedding was full of colour and energy from start to finish. With around 70 guests and a clear theme of bright, bold outfits, everything about the day felt fun, welcoming, and a little bit different from the norm.
Morning preparations at The Coach House
The morning started at The Coach House, which is the on site accommodation owned by Curds Hall Barn. It is just a short walk from the main venue which made everything feel really connected and easy to move between.
Both Chloe and Matthew got ready there, each with their own space, which meant I could document both sides of the morning naturally as it unfolded. This is always something I try to do where possible, as it helps tell the full story of the day rather than just one side of it.
The atmosphere in the morning was calm but full of excitement. There was a lot of laughter, a few quieter moments, and plenty going on without it ever feeling rushed. The natural light inside The Coach House was beautiful and soft which meant I could keep everything very simple and unobtrusive, just capturing things as they happened without needing to direct or interrupt.
Wedding Ceremony At Curds Hall Barn, Norfolk
The ceremony took place indoors at Curds Hall Barn, and it was such a unique space to photograph.
The colourful drapes hanging from the ceiling completely transformed the room and gave it so much character. Combined with the large windows bringing in natural light, it created a really nice balance between softness and colour which worked perfectly for a documentary approach.
There were two readings during the ceremony and a lot of genuine emotion throughout. Matthew in particular was clearly feeling the moment which always makes for really honest photographs. Rather than directing anything, I simply focused on capturing those reactions as they naturally happened, which is always where the most meaningful images come from.
You could tell how much the day meant to both of them and how strong their connection is, which really came through in the photos.
Confetti & Drinks Reception
Straight after the ceremony, everyone headed outside for confetti just outside the ceremony space.
Because the couple had asked guests to wear bright colours, this part of the day felt especially fun and full of energy. The mix of colourful outfits and confetti made for a really vibrant set of images and it suited the overall feel of the wedding perfectly.
During the drinks reception, I worked through a short list of group photos that we had planned in advance. This meant we could keep things efficient and relaxed without taking Chloe and Matthew away from their guests for too long.
The rest of the time was spent capturing candid moments as they happened. Guests catching up, laughing, hugging, and just enjoying being together. This is always one of my favourite parts of the day to photograph as it is where a lot of the real, unscripted moments happen.
Portraits of Chloe & Matthew
For the couple portraits, we kept everything very relaxed and flexible.
We used a mix of indoor and outdoor locations including the ceremony room, the reception space, and areas around the grounds. The interiors at Curds Hall Barn worked especially well because of the colour and light, which meant we could create something a little different without needing to rely on perfect weather.
Chloe and Matthew had mentioned beforehand that they were not particularly comfortable in front of the camera, so the focus was simply on making it feel easy and natural. No awkward posing or long periods away from their guests. Just giving them a bit of space, a bit of guidance where needed, and letting things unfold naturally. That is always where the best moments come from.
Later in the evening, we stepped out again during blue hour for a few more portraits on the driveway. This time using a bit of off camera flash to create something slightly different from the rest of the day. These ended up being some of my favourite images and added a really nice contrast to the softer, natural feel of the earlier photos!
Speeches!
Speeches took place in the reception room after the wedding breakfast, in a space that had really nice, even light which worked perfectly for capturing reactions across the room.
There was a great mix of humour and emotion throughout. Lots of laughter, a few quieter moments, and plenty of genuine reactions from both Chloe and Matthew as well as their guests. I always approach speeches in a very observational way, just moving quietly and capturing what happens without interrupting the flow.
As the evening began, the ceremony room was turned around for the first dance. It worked really well as a space for this, and once the dancefloor opened it did not take long for people to get involved.
The energy built quickly and the rest of the evening was full of movement, laughter, and people just enjoying themselves. I stayed focused on capturing those natural interactions rather than anything staged, which is always where the atmosphere of the evening really comes through.
Why Curds Hall Barn is such a great wedding venue!
This was my first time photographing at Curds Hall Barn and it is definitely a venue I would love to return to.
One of the standout things is how well everything flows across the day. Having The Coach House so close by makes the morning preparations feel connected to the rest of the wedding, and once you are at the main venue, everything you need is in one place.
The indoor spaces are a real highlight, especially for a wedding like this where colour played such a big role. The ceremony room with the drapes creates something visually unique, and the reception space works beautifully for both group photos and more relaxed moments.
There is also plenty of variety when it comes to portraits, both indoors and outdoors, which means you are not relying entirely on the weather. That flexibility makes a big difference and allows the day to stay relaxed no matter what.
Kind words from Chloe & Matthew - Review
“Connor photographed our wedding in March 2026 and we are so thrilled with the images we’ve received. Our day was very colourful and bold and he managed to capture how magical it felt in his photos.
My other half is rather shy in front of the camera and so are many of his family members, but we have incredible photos of everyone. Connor made everyone feel so at ease.
He has a fantastic eye and we feel so fortunate that our special day was captured by him. We absolutely would not hesitate to recommend Connor to anyone looking for a relaxed, documentary style photographer with natural portraits. He is a superstar!”
